the microphone in question is a audio technica at2020 cardioid condenser microphone (xlr output, not usb)
so, this morning i was shocked to discover the microphone i had rented had magically stopped picking up sound. well, that's not really true. it seems to be picking up sound if the volumes are up to the max, although it is extremely faint. it's even more of a surprise because i haven't used this microphone really all that much (due to the acoustics of the room) and whenever it's not in use it goes back in the box where it is securely cushioned by foam. in fact, it was working perfectly fine the last time i used it.
my thought is that it's a loose connection, but in all honesty, the microphone hasn't been dropped or damaged. the closest that i can think of is that it's been jostled once or twice, but i really have to wonder if that's the case. is this particular microphone (or cardioid microphones in general) really that fragile? if not,
and before you ask, no, it's not the console or the cords, because i tested them with a shure sm57. yes, i turned it off and on. yes, i'm sure it's an issue with the microphone itself.
so anyway, if anyone has any thoughts on the matter, please post because i really don't want to be out of pocket 110 dollars for this microphone if i'm really not to blame for the damage.
