Is my interface on it's last leg?

OMG!
Yesterday, I recorded a band all day. We got through 3 hours of drums with no problems at all. When the time came up for guitars.. I hooked everything up and it played fine for 10 minutes or so. Out of nowhere.. the guitar tone was covered up by a loud static-y fuzz. It was being recorded onto the track too. I tried two different mics, both of which I know work. I tried two mic cables, two that had just given me no problems while recording drums. I tried two seperate inputs on my digital mixer. I tried two inserts on my interface to see if maybe one had just blown. I tried another mixer entirely. I tried deleting the track I was using and making a new one. I restarted my sequencer a few times.

Nothing. Still making this God awful noise. After 45 minutes or so, I sent them on their way and immediately went to formatting and reinstalling everything. It's something I've been wanting to do for a while and I figured that maybe it would help.. so yea.

I just tried for a half hour to recreate the sound today, but I couldn't. However.. I was mixing some material for a client earlier and randomly my speakers were basically screaming at me. It sounded like a squeaky scream or something.

Basically.. I'm not sure if my interface is just dying on me or what. Judging by everything I tried, I've narrowed it down to somewhere in between my interface and computer.

The interface is a Terratec Phase 88. It's worked fine for the past 2 years and I've had no problems with it before. I'm running a homebuilt AMD 2500+ with 2gb of RAM and 360gb of hard drive space. I also just downloaded the newest drivers.

My interface gets funky once in awhile...i find a simple...save...then restart my computer and the problems gone.....i too have tried to just restart my application...but that never fix's it...but a simple restart of my daw does.
It usually happens to me when im trying something diffrent..like adding effects or switching some options on and off.

Apparantly it was one of the plugins I was using. I guess it's a false alarm.

Alright.. update. I tried recording the band again today.. yet again it made the attrocious sound. A way to remedy it temporarily was to change the buffer size for the interface. I assume this just reset the driver. By temporarily I mean for about 3 minutes. Luckily, it's a hardcore band with minute-long songs. It's still a pain in the God damn ass. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

If you couldn't recreate the noise and it only happens when you record that band...are you doing or using something different for them that you don't normally do?

I'm using their setup.. that's it. I normally record with the guitar louder than we have been. I'll try and see if I can recreate it again tomorrow. It's too late now.
