Is it possible to use both ProTools AND Cubase?

Hello again!

It looks more and more like I'm going to be getting an MBox... And I believe that the version of Pro Tools that comes with it will be more than good enough for me for quite awhile..

However, whenever I have to track drums, I will use the system my church is getting. But they're gonna be using Cubase (or possibly nuendo) and some other software since they're getting a MOTU 828MkII.

Will it be possible for me to transfer projects between Cubase and Pro Tools? Essentially, I guess I'll be doing most work on my own machine with Pro Tools, but I want to be able to export it from Pro Tools so that I can do the drum tracks then import it back to Pro Tools.

If not Cubase, then is there some other chepaer software that I can buy and put on the church computer that will talk to Pro Tools?

Just as some additional background info.. I plan to get an external (USB or Firewire... depending on whether I have the cash for a PCMCIA-Firewire adapter) drive that I will either put all my audio files on or transfer all my work to when I want to go from one place to another. Firwire should be fast enough that I can record straight to the drive from Pro Tools or anything right?

Thanks!

You export the wavs of your drum tracks then import the tracks into pro tools. That should do it!

But when you export the channels in cubase arn't they all from where the cursers placed. It dosn't matter where it's punched I/O each track will be audio of the full song so you can shove them all to 0 and their lined up. I think that'll work.

then u gotta line all the tracks up again tho

That's what I was worried about. Getting everything synched up.. I guess at the end of the day, I could always whack everything into wave files and import them to pro tools then do the same with the drum tracks the other way when i re-transport into Cubase...

Is there any less painful way?

Thanks for the advice so far!

Cubase SX 2, I believe, has OMF import and export.

Its a $500 add-on for Pro Tools.

If you have them both, you can translate back and forth between the 2.

(In theory- I've never actually done it, but that what OMF was designed for.)

Take care,
Chris
