Is it OK to plug a DI box into a preamp? Will this damage the DI or the preamp? Is this a common thing to do....I'm looking to have the clarity of the DI, but with the eq flexibility of the preamp.

Thanks

almost every DI out there is meant to plug into a mic preamp, thats what a DI does by definition. Converts guitar impedance to mic impedance to be amplified by a mic preamp

Ummm...., you already had this question answered in the thread you started 10 hours before. Why don't you unclench your buttcheeks and go plug your U5 into your 737 already.

Sheesh! The guy asks a simple question, he gets the correct answer, but I guess he wanted the opposite. Hmmm... I have an idea.....

Hey Yetipur, you should never, under any circumstances, plug a DI box into a pre. It'll not only overload and burn out both boxes, it'll likely start an electrical fire that will burn your house down. The fire will be pretty intense and will probably spread to nearby homes. By the time it's over, you'll have been responsible for the deaths of hundreds. My best advice to you is not to even have a DI and a pre in the same room.

He's probably still sitting in his room with the cable plug in his hand repeating to himself, "Should I or shouldn't I?" :)

What shorted, the cable, DI, or preamp?

If there's a short that means there is some technical flaw with the cable, the DI, or the preamp. DI's are indeed intended to be plugged into preamps, so that combination of gear alone would not cause a problem.
