I'm pretty new to the whole recording biz, so I don't really know what I'm talking about... but is it better to like buy computer software, or... what?
Like, do I get a mixer board that can have a mic? I only want to record piano, guitar and vocals. I REALLY need some ideas, cos I have a time limite of end of June. Also I have a budget of $500.(or there abouts) So that makes it even harder :(

well i'm gonna assume your just young and not a new troll... i'm afraid your gonna have a hard time getting anywhere serious with $200 to spend but then your 13 and your getting started earkier than most... if it were me i would think about getting one of the entry level packages for an interface... often they include some software... try searching for M-audio and the like.... there are lots of online stores wher you can shop for price... and actually i'm glad i got to you before you bought too much stuff... the first thing you need to decide on is the software you like.... while they all do the same thing to a large degree they all have different ways of dealing with it... so what you need to do is figure out which seems to make more sense to you... ya see your not gonna get as much done with software that ya cant wrap your brain around... good luck and keep asking.... oh by the way i use cubase...

ha ha I beat Pipeline.

That and an M-Audio or Presonus interface and you're set. Oh, and find a mic somewhere. You can usually dig up cheap Shure PG58's or something.

I already have a mic. It's a 'yoga dyamic mic - 4100' I also have an Ashton amp. (I've NO idea what model.)
I'll look around for an M-audio interface was it?

i started with some lame program called multiquence. gotta start learning somewhere i guess.

No. I do not have firewire (yet) on my laptop.
No. I do not have a mic stand. Whats an xlr cable?
I DO have headphones, and i actually have a keyboard for a piano... dunno how that helps, but it may.

Another thing is that...
I live in australia, so I want to get any gear from australia... which definitely limits my options.

Just a friendly tip. Questions like this are really best researched on your own (i.e. Google). People here are more than happy to help, but you gotta do at least a little research on your own, or people will either get fed up and be rude, or just stop helping altogether. As a general rule, try a google search first, then use the search function on this site. If, after that, you still can't find an answer, then ask here. People will be much more friendly and helpful this way.

I do have an xlr cable. and I have an amp, and I have a mic, and i have a computer, and I have software. All I need now is a 3.5 to 2.5 adaptor (I know where to get them) and I'll be set.

So thanks for your help guys
:)
