hi.

my meters say that the mix is clipping somethimes, but i can't hear any distortion. is it okay to clip sometimes?

Depends on what point in the chain the meters are reading the signal!

Generally, if you can't hear distortion on careful listening, then you're fine....

Check with good headphones just to be sure, sometimes low-frequency clipping isn't always completely audible depending on your monitors and the room they're placed in!

When in doubt of the accuracy of the meters in any specific tracking or editing program I look at the .wav file itself. If I don't see any clipped waveforms I know that I haven't tracked any clipped tracks.

i see. thanks for the help.

i analyzed a few commercial tracks and most clipped on occasion. I guess human ears are the final judge.

^^^^ i did the same thing and A LOT of the commercial stuff clipped. when i look at wave forms and i see a BLOCK i know something is wrong. i recently did a song where the vocals were distorting. it sounds GREAT because the guitars are distorted and the lyrical content is distorted (its a song about catholic priest and molestation). we achived the results by "accident" but they work for the song. thats all that matters.

ps i also did the same thing with a song about a demon possessed mother who killed her kids.
