I'm wondering if anybody is using PA9 and Window ME. I've heard that there might be compatability issue between the two. Just curious if anyone has managed to make everything work smoothly. I'm just not ready to upgrade to Sonar, and I quite like ME.

According to the CW web site, Win ME is not supported by PA9.

However, before I upgraded to Sonar, my system used PA9 and Win ME. I used it that way for about 8 months and I had no problems with it. It was a stock Dell system (PIII 733 Mhz) and came with Win ME installed. The only modification I made was to add a Delta 1010 sound card.

FWIW I don't do any midi work, strictly audio recording and mixing, and latency for the most part isn't an issue for me.

I'm still using the same basic system, but now with Sonar, and I have since added memory and a second hard drive.

NO ISSUES HERE!!!

I have windows ME. It came with my Gateway...works fine. I don't seem to be having any issues running Cakewalk. I'm so issue free. I didn't even realize it wasn't supported. Whoops.

Believe me, it works... just like Win 98 SE...
Don't worry... I've got ME & PA9 on PIII 866, 256 RAM,
No problem... (if any, it's caused by other issue...)

Not so fast. I had all kinds of problems with audio not working and PA9 complaining my card was not capabable of stereo recording/playback. All those problems dissapeared when I went back to 98SE.

Why not upgrade to Sonar. It would be ridiculous not to make use of all the extra perfomance you get with WDM drivers in Sonar. Looking at that old PA9 user interface makes me cringe now (shudders at the thought).

good topic

I was planning to go from Windows 98SE to Windows ME.....I dont want to intall XP yet because I listen to a computer talkradio show on saturdays and they always talk about how XP is not compatable with ALOT of products.

Since Windows ME has the WDM driver I need for real-time playing, I will install it soon.

Anyone have any problems with ME, let me know!

thanks

Ummm...bad idea. ME was Microsoft's worst OS EVER!!! Just do a search here on old posts - people have trouble with it left and right

Talkradio shows probably discuss nothing as far as DAW hardware. I have been using XP since Thanksgiving with no problems whatsoever for DAW and more (video editing,3D Modelling...).

Why don't you actually do some research as for as drivers in XP are concerned before making a (silly in my opinion) decision to use ME.

avoid windows ME

windows ME is a crappy OS. I have had sooo many problems with it. I bought XP, and i love it. I highly recommend avoiding ME at all costs.

take care

I'm running cakewalk home Studio with Me and I have had absolutely no problems (and I don't know shit about computers).

Apparantly there are people who wrote that ME works well for them. I have heard the other side of the story and that **XP** is the worst OS ever.......

Windows XP...!

I use XP at work and I've found it to be a kick arse OS - no problems.

I'm using Cake PA9 at home on Win98 at the moment, but I'm gonna get a new PC soon, and I was wondering if anyone's had problems with PA9 and XP...?

Thanks in advance...

Dave.

I have heard several people who have had problems with PA9 and Win XP. Also, Cakewalk does not list XP as a supported platform for PA9 - http://www.cakewalk.com/sonar/SRvsPA.html.

If you go the XP route, you probably want to go Sonar at the same time. (Or try it with PA9, but at least be prepared to upgrade to Sonar).

Moskus - Actually there is no need to wait. I believe all purchasers of Sonar 1.31 at this time receive a free upgrade to 2.0 when released. 8th St. Audio has been offering this for a couple of weeks already.
