Is analog control really that great?

I did my last recording project using Audacity, and I really like the results I got. However, my dad (who taught me most of what I know) keeps on insisting that program is a P.O.S. because it doesn't have real time, analog control for volume and what not.

My question is how important is all that stuff really? Would my recordings suddenly improve significantly if I upgraded my software? Would analog control make my life much easier?

If you want to hear what I've made with Audacity, some of my songs can be downloaded from http://www.tp0a.com/tszn/cgi-bin/ZombieNewton/downloads.html. The first five were made with Audacity. The other three were made with an actual hard drive recorder with analog controls (and no live drummer).

IMHO not having real-time analog control is only a problem if you *need* real-time analog control. If you need to be able to control volume, in real time, then maybe you need it. I've never needed it, myself. But, that's me. Depends on what *you* think you need.
