is an mxl-2001 safe to use on drums?

i am thinking about buying a marshall mxl 2001 for a studio vocal mic but i am also wondering if i can use it to mic a drumkit...is that safe? will it damage the microphone? does using a screen solve the problem?

I use my MXL 2001 as a "room mic" for drums often. However you are probably safe to use on any drum source as long as you don't slap it really hard with a stick...I belive the SPL rating on that mic exceeds 130db, meaning that aside from using it inside a kick drum on death metal drummer, you'll be more than fine. -JON
