Q stands for 2 things. 1) For some reason, my son use to say to me when he was a baby "Q" instead of dada.
It's a nickname that I've had for the past 19 years and 2)Remember the weapons expert in the James Bond movies,"Q",he had all the gadgets.
I'm into jaz-funk,r&b funk,rock-funk and Q-funk!
My younger brother, who just signed with Universal Records, is deeeep into rap, with a self-titled album ("Chris Collie Sez") coming out in June 2001.
Me personally,I'm a bass-player,keyboardist,ex-drummer
guitarist and former trumpet player (cigarettes destroyed my wind and breath control).
Q also stand for in-Q-uisitive as in "Is A DJ A Musician?"
Peace

Hear a nice turntable on a record, and it's like wow.
Even if it is not a musical instrument, it is an awesome element. Rhymes.

NO NO NO NO NO
yes yes yes yes i do have 3 sets of 1200's because my brother is a dj here in fl wpb and he gives me his old ones
yes yes yes yes i use them well very! for fun!
no no no no its not an instrument!
and yes yes yes yes im sic of hearing them in every dam band out there one or twice was good! quite it already! so you can make funny noises ohhhh i can to, not impressed, if it makes you mad to see this then

simply dont look!

Hmmmm?

I must first declare that I CANNOT rap, love listening to it though, and am not a DJ, but I do know, in my FATAL attempts at "scratching" that it takes a lot of learning and practice to be able to sound good!

So, my answer is YES. I believe a turntable can be considered an instrument, you might not "play it" but you play things on it, which in turn creates something you are "playing", so yah...YES it is.

I have much respect for those who have mastered the art of using turntables. And they are so VERSATILE, anything...anything can come out of those things depending on who's behind the wheels... You go guyz (and girls) keep on making those beats and grooves that I love to nod my head to, and occassionally sing hooks for.

Play your INSTRUMENTS!!! I mean, because if you say, that a turntable is not an instrument, then that would mean that a DJ, is NOT an artist, which i think is blasphemous to even think.

so if i buy a painting and hang up for all to see maybe even smack it around so you can "bob your head to it" than i must be even more of an artist then i thought
right on!!

Yes indeed, it definitely is an instrument.

When used in conglomeration with the correct records and DJ (check it out, camn's previous post :) ).

It takes years of practice to master scratching (especially if you are trying to be ambidextrious (sp?) :D.

PEACE...

I would say no it isn't generally... But to a deep Hip Hop DJ it definetly is a an instrument because the DJ is manipulating the turntable to produce sounds that weren't orignal designed for the turntable....
Thus creating another sound - Instruments create sounds when played with....

Instruments do create sounds, but not everyone that plays one is a musician! I've recorded a salt shaker, is that an instrument? yes, no, maybe, in the right hands perhaps. But was the person doing the shaking a musician, I don't think so...

Will the new MODERATOR of this forum kindly CLOSE this thread!?

This thing is d@mn near over a year old! I started this thread as ONLY a joke and wasn't looking for any real responses!

Peace!
