Is a digital controller the same as a breakout box with pro tools?

I have a Tascam FW-1082 FireWire DAW Controller. It connects via firewire to my mac currently (using digital performer). I have a copy of pro tools but no card or breakout box. Can i connect my Tascam to my Windows box via firewire and use the tascam as is, or do I need a breakout box to connect to make pro tools functional? Does the Tascam Controller work AS A break out box? This whole thing is kinda new to me so please be patient.. i know this is potentially a silly question. :confused:

no, you need a Digidesign approved soundcard in order to work with Pro Tools.
 
ok, well what program might work with the equipment i mentioned?
any recomendation may help.
 
it should work fine with any other program that utilizes it's drivers...which is most programs.
