Is a Beta 58 any good for micing acoustic guitar?

I've been going direct with everything but vocals. If I record acoustic guitar tracks with a Beta 58 will I have to re-record them later, cause they suck so much?

Not if the mic is in good shape and you pay attention to the placement.

Start with the mic pointed at the spot where the neck joins the body and between 8" to 12" away from the instrument. Then adjust to taste.

It may also help to sit in a solid chair on a fair sized piece of 1/2" or thicker plywood --- it sometimes helps to fill out the sound.

Humm, have you tried the Beta 58 on your acoustic guitar yet?

I Found That With My Sm57(i Don't Know How Close That Is To The Beta 58, But Being That The Sm58 Is Essentially Just A Sm57 With A Windscreen, And A Beta 57 Is Somewhat Close To An Sm57, I'd Guess That The Sm57 And The Beta 58 Are At Least Somewhat Comparable)
Miking Where The Neck Meets The Body Made It So You Could Hear The Strings Being Hit Way Too Loud, It Was Almost Like A Distortion. I Miked The Soundhole And Then(uh Oh You Purists) Cut Out A Lot Of The Bottom End With Eq And Raised The High End Just A Little Bit And It Sounded Pretty Darn Good. My Friend Who I Did The Recording For Was Amazed That I Got It To Sound That Good With A 90 Dollar Non-condenser.

I'm Sure Of People Will Tell You Not To Do This Because You Need To Use A Pretty Drastic Eq To Cut Out All Those Lows Coming From The Soundhole, But If You Are Having The Same Problem With Hearing Too Much Guitar String Twang, Then It's At Least Something You Could Try Out. I'm Sure Different Approaches Work For Different Players/guitars Too. This Is Just The One That Got Me Personally Good Results.

Depende On How It Sits In The Mix. And Why Are We Capitalizing Every Word?
Personally, I like a sdc pair on acoustic

I also enjoy a SDC pair on acoustic. usually i use AKG C391's with pretty good results.
If all you've got is a beta 58, then go ahead and use it, as you can probably get decent results if you carefully adjust placement. But if you had a condenser, i feel you would get much better results

HAHAHAHAHAHA I didn't type it like that!? That's hilarious though. Maybe I accidentally left my capslock on and there's some sort of forum filter to gaurd against it that just capitalizes the first letter of every word instead? I have no clue. But there's no way I spent the time to do that just to be annoying.

I'd agree with the SDC comments, but if he had some of those I doubt he'd have posted this.

Consider This A Test Of This Hypothesis. I Really Hope Everybody Pays Attention To Me Because I Really Like To Shout. Hey Look At Me Look At Me Look At Me!

By George, that is indeed the case. However, I would like to point out that

IT DOESN'T WORK IF THERE ARE NORMAL WORDS IN THE MESSAGE!

Sorry about that folks, but I wanted to know. Please resume the thread. :)
