Is a $300 dollar mixer worth it?

I was looking at a Behringer X1832 mixer, and I was wondering if a $300 mixer would really do much for my sound. If you guys think it would be a good buy, then how would I hook it up to my Tascam US 600 interface?

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? Mixers are for mixing several signals together. They aren't some kind of miracle signal processors that make things sound better.

Unless you're recording more signals at a time than your interface can handle, then what do you need a mixer for?

And if you are recording more signals at a time, then I'd be going for a new interface, unless you have other uses for a mixer. A $300 mixer probably ain't gonna deliver split tracks, just, as boulder said, mix them together.

And what's wrong with your "sound" that you want to fix?

There's nothing wrong with it, I just thought that a mixer with a compressor and an eq could sweeten the sound before it hits my DAW...I also could use a few more inputs for drum miking (like putting both overheads on one track.)

I wouldn't worry about EQ'ing or compressing in the tracking stage. If your anything like me, I change my mind so sporadically that if I did do something to the original signal, I couldn't get the dry track back, and would have to rerecord.

Like armistice said, if you want more signals, get a interface with more signals.

In my opinion, you would have to spend well over $1000 to even get close to a benefit from an external compressor/preamp. This does not even take in to consideration, knowing how, or why you are using it. I suggest recording direct to DAW from your interface, and use VST effects until you know what you really need. Of course, I could be an idiot....
