IRQ sharing / PCI slot Usage ?

I just installed a 120gb HD but had to use an IDE/PCI card adapter from Maxtor. Just another PCI slot being used. Is this going to cause more PCI bus efficiency problems and IRQ conflicts. Should I some how get the HD off the PCI slot. This will be a dedicated drive to record audio from Sonar onto.

By the way has anyone received some direction from Aardvark or others regarding the low PCI bus efficiency on some setups?

Whay do you need a pci card for it? What's wrong with your MB controller?

Probably because it was an ATA133 drive. They're not supported on most motherboards, though they should be on newer motherboards. Damn, that ATA133 is annoying. The least Maxtor could have done would be to provide an adapter to ATA100 for people who didn't want to install that annoying PCI card.

Huh? If an ATA133 drive doesn't work on an ATA100 controller, it's broken. It won't work at ATA133 speeds obviously, but it's irrelevant.

To answer your question about adding a PCI card, yes it will impact your PCI bus contention and bandwidth. By how much is anybody's guess depending on what you're doing.

I'm apologize for being vague.
I'm trying to have individual ide conectors for each drive I have an abit nf7s rev.2. 2 ide udma133 & 2 sata 150s .

I did figure out the problem on the sata connector and got the drive working. It was bios flash or driver update that worked.

Marquis Thanks that is my concern, Ive a friend with an intel setup getting optimal pci throughput. I'm considering setting the audio card to a dedicated irq or should I say give that pci slot a dedicated irq?

I'm not certain how or if this will help.

Any advice would be great.
