IRQ and hell that follows...

Does anyone here know anything at all about IRQ settings/conflicts. M-Audio graciously told me they couldn't fix my problem with my Firewire 410 because it was an IRQ problem and not their problem.

Sounds coming from the 410 become garbled and the 410 has to be constantly reset. This is driving me batty!!

Does this mean anything to anyone?????

I keep reading stuff about problems with the VIA 1394 chipset on various pieces of sound gear... This is your Firewire card in your computer... Maybe try and get your hands on a new one.. Just google *Texas Intruments Chipset, firewire* and you should get several hits.. Shop a bit, you should be able to find one for $50 or so...

Outside of that.. You're not running a Celeron processor in your PC are you..?? Have been told that was the source of my heartaches with an Alesis Firewire Mixer board..

Well, it looks like your FireWire IRQ is only being shared by the PCI Cardbus which I think is fine.. I had M-Audio help with my tech problems too, and they always seem to suggest IRQ problems. I find they just say that always for all problems (as noted by other members who have called them).
 
Yeah, their response really just angers me. An "IRQ conflict" because the graphics adapter is on 16 and the firewire on 17...that isn't even logical. I think its just a cop out really....perhaps meaning "we've made an inferior product, let's blame it on something else".

Its a P4 by the way, not celeron. 2.79ghz processor. I can't find anything online about how to change and IRQ either. I called the guy that suggested the Firewire 410, and his is on IRQ 5 or 11. Also according to M-Audio anything over 16 in the IRQ's is virtual and can't be fixed...I really think they are just blowing me off.

It just really burns my behind that I have now comitted myself to M-Audio products since I just purchased M-Powered Pro-tools.

What a bunch of peckers.

Yeah. M-Audio's drivers aren't that good either. That's why I prompted to return my FireWire solo and get a PreSonus Firebox instead. PreSonus' tech support is amazing. I have been on at a week (look at my other thread regarding low input volume) with them. They are very helpful and determined to solve my problem. Their drivers also are way better than M-Audio. It seems IRQ 16 and IRQ 17 doesn't matter... I think what matters is if it's on the SAME IRQ. Like if both your gfx and firewire were IRQ 17 or IRQ 16. That *could* present a problem, however not likely. I originally had my gfx & onboard FW on IRQ 16. There were no problems though even when I installed a new PCI FW card. There was an article online saying something about how IRQ being controlled by Windows shouldn't conflict too much especially with WXP nowadays.
