Does anyone know anything about the ION IED05 electronic drum kit? I know it must be pretty bad, but I have very little money left over and I'm really bad at playing drums on my MIDI keyboard and I don't have a drum set to record.

Here's a link: http://www.thetelecomspot.com/ion-i...ame-p-3338.html?m1track=googlebase#googlebase

It says that it will work as a MIDI controller, so would I be able to set this up to use Logic's sounds or EZDrummer? Has anyone had any experience just generally with this kit?

Thanks in advance!

I have the earlier version with their Alesis SR16 control box modified for trigger inputs and relabeled iON. I think they may have downgraded the native samples, but that's not an issue for use as a MIDI controller.

It IS awful, but it will work for triggering EZDrummer.

These sets go for about $100 used on CraigsList.

The pads are atrocious and the pedals are only on/off switches.

I think I might save up a little bit, any recommendations for something cheap but good?

I'd be willing to buy off eBay.

Or also, if there's a good cheap acoustic kit that's cheap I'd think about that because I was going to eventually buy a real kit and some mics.

A lot of people are building their own kits since the little piezo triggers are under a buck now. If you have a brain box to accept the triggers and send the MIDI output, like the one that comes with the iON, that's all you need to have an improvised set.

Personally, I avoid buying off eBay like the plague.

I don't know where you live, but if it's in a good-sized American city with CraigsList, you should be able to buy a good set of mildly-used drums and cymbals for almost nothing these days. It's pretty amazing how actual selling (not asking) prices have dropped in the past year.
