Best place I can find to introduce myself. I've been lurking for a while now, figured I'd finally step up and say hello.

Hello. :D

Mainly, I'm a bass player. I've been playing over 20 years. But I have also played most everything at one time or another. (see below) I first set foot in a studio just over 20 years ago and have been fascinated, and hooked ever since.

I've been running a little private project studio for about 12 years. Before that I was a Music Major, and the campus engineer while at college. I've lost track of the number of albums I've played on, engineered, or produced. Nothing anyone but those involved would get too excited about. I do it because I love creating music, helping others create music, or helping others improve.

Hopefully I can learn a few things, teach a few things, explore new areas, and not come across like a complete jerk. ;) But the latter is probably the least likely to happen.

Welcome to the board! You came to the right place, this forum has very knowledgeable & talented individuals.
 
Hi buddy! As long as you don't take anything/anyone too seriously, there actually is A LOT to be learned here. Here are the basic ground rules for survival:

Don't EVER ask what the best mic is for rap.
Don't EVER ask what the best mic is for under $x.
Don't EVER admit to believing in Bigfoots (or is it Bigfeet?).
If you drop the soap, just leave it.
Don't bother trying to type the words ****, ******, or *** in a thread, because the BBS will automatically censor them.
Don't get hung up on Rep points - they're by and large meaningless, but at the same time, the more you give, the more you're likely to get.
Be cautious of any discussions where "Cheetos" are mentioned.
If you see a post from Gorty, scroll down VERY Slowly. If you start to see a pic of a bathroom, get the hell out of there. Trust me.

What am I forgetting?

Andyhix... sounds like some useful advice. Fortunately I've been around long enough to have realized "the best" of anything is entirely in the ears of the beholder. Everyone has different tastes and hears things differently.

And I already know the best microphone for Rap... its the "one" I will NEVER have on hand. :D (I assume there's a good story there)

lol well , I'm a hip hop producer/engineer (no not a hip hop beat producah). Anyways, we know better. Then there's the newbies that come in and well you'll see it... They almost always ask what's the best mic for rap. Even for me, it irritates the hell out of me.

Then again, they ARE newbies that don't know better (newbies as in new to recording period), and maybe need a lending hand in steering them in the right direction.
 
Mindset

Well... that was no-where near as fun as I had hoped. :p I was guessing Andyhix's post was mostly tongue in cheek. Although ANYTHING involving bathroom pics needs to be questioned.

I've pretty much always dealt with bands and instruments... I've never had a bunch of synths, samplers, or machines so I've not ventured down the hip hop or rap path. But I have about 2-3 inquiries about it a week. I could probably make a decent living relying solely on 16-18 year olds who believe they're the next <fill in the blank>.

The trend seems to be shifting to incorporating musicians opposed to pure sampling so I'm finding myself pulled in that direction simply for the number of instruments I can play... So who knows... maybe I should ask to be pointed to the "Best Mic" thread after all. :)
