Intro to Schematics

I was wondering if anyone had any resources, preferably website, for reading schematics. I'd like to get into a lot more DIY stuff but I often find I'm held back because I don't know what one or two things on a schematic are and I don't know electronics well enough to fill in the gaps. Is there a good glossary out there? Are these even universal? Thanks!

universal??? well not exactly but pretty standardized... i suggest picking up a starter book like craig andertons guitar projects or something similar... but always the best would be to take a class like at local jr college...
