First off, I want to say thanks to everybody out there. I've been reading these posts for about a week now, and what I've learned has been invaluable.

Now for the questions. I know nothing about mic pre's. I wouldn't know a good one from a bad one, except for the few things that I've read here (I'm still working on that). So I'm wondering about the quality of the pre's included in the Event EZBus. I've been using it for a while, and don't have any complaints, but then again, I'm sure that I don't know what I'm missing. Any thoughts on the reputation of these pre's?

The other reason I'm wondering is because I've been thinking about adding the Event EMP-8 next year some time, to be able to run 8 simultaneous mic's in, and I'm assuming that the pre's are the same. It looks like it's going to sell for about $500 for 8 pre's, so it's obviously a budget-type system, but I don't really know how this stands up to other budget pre's, etc.

As far as equipment, I'm using a Rode NT-3 and miscellaneous (read: cheap) dynamics. I'm hoping to upgrade to a C3 some time next year. Any thoughts y'all have would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also interested in this...it's hard to find good material on musical equipment(not instruments). I'll give it the old college try to find some sites and post back.

A huge factor, seldom emphasized in home recording circles,
is the quality of the room you're recording in.
Many times it's way more important, relatively speaking,
than comparing pre's that are a "notch" or so apart sonically.
Having the recent opportunity to record rehearsals in a church
has driven this point home to me firsthand.

If the highest level of aspiration, for example, is to make worthy
"artist demos" (demos sent to a recording label and/or producer),
like myself, there's no real need to spend lots of money.
A good mic pre like a Studio Projects VTB-1 is more than adequate
IMHO.
