Internet MIDI wrecks other MIDI

I'm using a PC, Pentium III, 500 Mhz, 64mb RAM, Windows 98, Creative PCI 128 soundcard, PowerTracks Pro and Lime notations programs. MIDI output is to a Yamaha PSR 510 keyboard.

Problem: When I play a MIDI file from the Internet, it wreaks havoc with the rest of my MIDI functioning. Playing MIDI from my notation program or sequencer or from Windows Media Player becomes intermittent. Or MIDI won't even play at all. Or some MIDI files will play while others won't. Or only some of the MIDI will play while others won't. The PC seems to receive MIDI fine, but MIDI output to the keyboard goes haywire.

I've solved this the first time by uninstalling my Creative soundcard drivers and then reinstalling. The second time I had to uninstall all soundcard software and then reinstall. After that, MIDI output was still not fully functional, but then, suddenly, everything worked fine. I'm not sure if it was something I did. MIDI wasn't playing, then suddenly, it was playing. All the while, PowerTracks would play its own MIDI files fine but would not play the MIDI files I had created.

Help me.

To me it sound like you need to upgrade your sound card. I ran into some of the same problems until I brought a audiophile delta series 24bit 96kHz, this card is great.( around $175.00 US) At this time Im running a PC, Pentium III 500Mhz overclocked to 630Mhz, Pro Tools LE software, 128 mb RAM (you might want to consider upgrading your RAM)and I also have a Yamaha PSR 540 and a Roland Juno 106 keyboards and I no longer have any problems....

Hope this helps you out.

Thank you, Carter. I didn't have any problems with the card until I started using the Internet. I'll consider upgrading the card.

Anybody else have any ideas?
