Hmmm...

Washburn100: hey, bashing drummers is cool. SOmehow the drummer has some statistically higher percentage chance to be more likely to be the member on heroin, LMAO. Thats not me, but... I take NO OFFENSE, hee hee.

your a 6 string man? YAH, guitarists "in general" can have their OWN set of foibles common to them, obviously thats not YOU.

Drummers tend to get "jacked" 'cos the singer and lead guitarists get all the underage chicks, LMAO. The bassists can "dig this" and will hang with the drummer, lol.

ANY member of the band, can get a swelled head, and start refusing to practice and learn new techniques, and kind of tread water. They're usually (hopefully, lol) moderately awesome by the time they get like this, but, its a pain. Guitarists and singers have a "tendency" to get together and write lyrics and music, and kind of "order around" the drummers and bassists a little. DZrugs and alcohol and "getting married" and swelled heads can affect ANY member of the band at any time, LMAO

What did GregoryBloodyshit say... "Do it all yourself, alone" ?? God, I never intended to DO that, but... its the direction I'm in, kinda by default. i think a lot of us are.

I dont ever think I can aspire to make the next radio ready hit, all by myself, surely "no". I keep making "sonata" big classical numbers... incrementally better each time. growth comes in sporadic spurts with this. Its "sorta cool" overall, and in places really cool, but, overall its definitely not "Beethoven", but... the original idea was that to study classical composition was supposed to "bear fruit" in learning to write popular music.

Its STARTING to, but... its not there yet. I'm at the point, some intermediate level. Where my buddy that hasnt heard my stuff in a long time, heard several things, and actually said "I'm impressed". (he listens to progressive rock a lot). My "periodic" checking back into now and then trying to make a pop type song... its not "done" far from it, but... he said herer and there, some of it was "close" and in patches "sounded sorta fleetwood mac-cy" here and there...

he says some of the classical stuff was "close" to being soundtrack type, in places.

I'm getting closer, i can tell.

Whats REALLY annoying, to ME anyways? I run across a musician, and bid them check somethign out. I usually get "Well, thats not a bad idea, but... that guitar sounds like crap"

I feel olike I am beating my head against a wall, saying "dude! Thats a computer playing the guitar, for chrissakes! If its a half decent idea, why dont YOU play the guitar part! See if you like it, and do your own thing!"

What do i get?

"Aw man, I, like... write my OWN stuff, dude... no ones taking credit for writing anything with ME doing all the work playing guitar, dude."

Ahhhhh... I juet keep going. Sooner or later, SOMEone will see a need for me, I suppose. i write melodys, and complicated melody systems, they keep getting better. I am getting "closer" to writing a traditional pop song system... jesus, the classical is closer than anything... I keep tryign to write lyrics, but, thats a TALL order for me, LMAO...

I can take a pent min melody, craft a second different melody, that plays by itself, or with the original overmelody, or at times in and out of time each woth different textures. I can usually whip up a "orchestra piece" intro that the 1st minute of is interesting, based on the overmelody... sometimes more...

but, by and large... groups just seem to want to write CHORDS and sing over them, I notice. NO ONE wants to do NOTE melodies... I hear it all the time in music, yet, no one wants to do it.

there HAS to be a use for someone like me, eventually, I just dont know what that "job" is.

It seems like... everyone wants, and copyrights... just lyrics with "chords" written over the words... whatEVER note melodies the musicians play along with it that "works", is cool, but no one notices. yet, those note melody system(s) seem INORDINATELY important in a lot of musical pieces.

Oh well... if I just keep doing more and more, there has to be a place for me somewhere, I figure. Or not, oh well. Its a very fulfilling hobby!

Maybe if i coul learn to write lyrics I could get somewhere, I dunno. I always fiogured thats what I am WORST at, I should leave that to the wordsmiths, you know? LMAO...

Don't feel bad, I play a mean set of keys so get even less love. I figure that's because most of American society believes "real" rockers sing & play guitar.

I decided I wanted a bigger Ego so I've started to learn guitar and sing.

90% my favorite songs all have at least some melody that is played using instruments other than the vocals. Van Halen, Rush, Kansas, Boston, Deep Purple, AC/DC....

How about trying to become a riff & hook writer rather than a song write. Then look for someone to work with, and stack those with a chord progressions so you can use lyric/chord sheets. Then do what it takes for you or someone else to play those hooks/riffs as intro's and bridges.

I registered at Indaba, posted some lyrics and then, without anyone replying to my lyrics, someone took them and tried to pass them off as their own in another thread. And nobody said nothing.

Here is the thread in question:

Talk about a horrible collaborators.

That kind of stuff is why I'm reluctant to try to collaborate online. I have shared one song with someone that I'm supposed to be collaborating with,
and I pretty much gave him the 3rd degree before I even decided for sure to share the song with him. lol
I'm a member of deviantART, and I'm not sure if it's still going on, but for a while there were several artists who were complaining about other people stealing their work and claiming credit for it. I think the admins at deviantART got wind of it, and took care of the problem (e.g. deleted the offender's account and banned them from the site).

It's a shame that people get so desperate as to go out and steal other people's work and claim it. It makes it tough for the rest of us who are honest.

Actually, I will delete that, not many will get that joke.

Like when rappers sample pieces of other peoples music so they can pretend that they wrote a song.

Funny, I play guitar and feel like its time is over. All been done before, while I think keys are wide open.
