I have a Roland VS-840 for a bad internal zip drive. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement drive? Does anyone know if any 100mb zip drive will work or does it have to be the Panasonic JU-811T that is currently installed?

Bummed ZIP

Sorry to hear of your "woes"..........
Got no real help for you though. My "thinks" on this problem is to go to the mother company. To be able to use the 100Mg ZIP sounds a bit far for ROLAND's EPROM programmers to think to include that specific driver when the device uses 250 ZIP device.
Maybe, I see it as too complicated ? Those two devices may just use the same driver ?
What I've heard from many other users about specific gear. I just got to wonder if this is one of those cases where these folks designed a kind-of, "one trick pony". Hopefully I'm wrong.
I know with the BR-8, file conversion is needed when attempting to run recorded data from my type of device to yours !
Do you get what I'm trying to say ? Way down the chain of, ROLAND getting money from us recording buffs, there must be some folks ( design folks) who want to kind of pigeon-hole us into one product or another...... ANYWAY, I got a strong feeling they want the Service end of repairs too.
I'd bet the 250Mg from Panasonic may be the way thru this trouble.
Again hopefully I'm wrong. Stay in touch this forum is the best way going to grow and learn about recording to these boxes. Hugh

Thanks for the info HAGPLUS4. I suspect the recorder you are using is a newer model than mine. Mine actually comes with the 100mb zip drive installed. I believe I read somewhere that I could have it upgraded to 250mb if I sent the whole machine back to Roland. Anyway, I went ahead and got a 100mb internal zip drive from the local computer store and it ended up working just fine. I suspect that if anyone ends up having any problems with their 250mb zip drives, they can do the same thing I did to fix it.

I do like happy endings.
I'm glad you got back with a response. Real answers come along with experiences. Thanks, for sharing with everybody, Drive failures happen. It's nice to hear that there are practical/alternitive answers .
