Hi,

Hope you can help. I would like to use my PCs (IBM T61T running Vista) internal mic with my PCs mic/line in port in order to record at the same time to windows sound recorder (or other program).

(I want to mix / record my voice and some background music which is held on a external MP3 device at the same time to my hard drive in wav or MP3 format).

However when I insert my line in jac the internal mic is disabled. Is there a way to stop the internal mic from being disabled? Now I can record from from only one input source at a time. Is there any way to do this without purchasing additional hardware? Surely it must be possible to use the internal mic/linein port and the internal mic at the same time?

Thanks for your help..

Probably not. the onboard sound likely only has two channels of converters; most I have seen switch between the mic and line inputs.

Transfer the mp3 to PC (I would do that as a data and not audio transfer), and playback the mp3 while recording your vocal as a separate track, and mix to taste. Try Audacity, it will enable monitoring during recording whereas I don't think Sound Recorder will.
