interface inconjunction with analog mixer

hello-im only used to analog recording, but i would like to get into digital. im getting a new ibook for school and i would like to get an interface and software to do some nice recording with it. i would like to use an 8 channel analog mixer to track with so i can record several istruments, particularly drums onto the computer. what should i look for in an interface, software, what have you. any help choosing the equiptment and software would be much appreciated. i also dont have tons of money to spend. thanks.

If that ibook has firewire, you can get a Presonus Firepod for $600. Comes with preamps and Cubase LE - everything you need to get started on 8 channel recording
