Hi there,

I am new here and i did some search around the forums but i can't really find the answer to my questions so here they are:

I have a Mac Pro and need something to record and also for playback. I also own a set of 7.1 speakers that connect using the 3 analog jacks.

I have decided that i will buy an external interface, one of these:
Helix Board 12 FireWire MKII - Audio Interface
Helix Board 18 FireWire MKII - Audio Interface
(sorry wanted to post direct links but as a new user it seems i am not allowed to)

I need to choose a set of active monitors, i am looking for best quality, it does not have to be anything high powered.

It would be neat to also find a cheap audio card that can provide 7.1 sound for my mac (just for the movies) and also use my current speakers via the 3x 1/8" jacks for that purpose.

Questions:
1. What do you think about my choice for an audio interface
2. What kind of monitors do you recommend to get in terms of quality/price
3. With that interface/mixer thing setup and two monitors should i be able to use it for simple playback from the mac and not only monitoring my inputs?
4. Is there a cheap 7.1 card that you know of and recommend.

Big thanks in advance.

My budget is very small since i already got my mac pro and i am waiting for a 27 inch screen from dell. I am a musician, not a recording engineer but have a lot of recording needs and also want to listen to music on my monitors. Ability to use my 7.1 set of surround speakers additionally, with a card that works with the mac would be an advantage.

I was thinking about active monitors from behringer but i have no clue if behringer is any good in terms of monitors. I had some behringer gear and quality is very case basis with this company.

Extra thanks for the quick reply since i want to buy fast. Can't take the internal mac pro case speaker any longer ;).

Cheers,
BP
