Now using RMGI... scroll down to just below the warning to clean and degauss in red letters.

There has been some buzz over the last year about Quantegy QC issues. Probably just another factor in what's going on.

It' too bad... Quantegy has good formulas... maybe the current people just can't make it work. :(

Good find. I actually saw they were using RMGI MRL tapes almost as soon as Q came back. They've been using them for at least a year, if memory serves me right.

Yeah, I remember when they began offering RMGI as an option, as they always did EMTEC. Now at least it appears they are all RMGI, if I'm reading it right... Quality issues with Quantegy? Not sure.

I just sent an email to Jay to confirm this. I'll let you know what he says.

Cheers,

Here is Jay's reply about the switch to RMGI:

Yes -- long ago. I'd have to get the exact date from Chuck, but we got
an early evaluation sample, and liked it, and started using it as soon
as we could get production quantities. We've used BASF/Emtec tape for
years, and RMGI continues the tradition. Ampex/Q has always been on
the flakey side.
