They are called avatars...to get one, click on profile, then edit options, then go down and click change avatar, select the one you want, click submit modifications, and enclose a check or money order made out to Gidge for 9.95....(just kiddin about the 9.995, but everything else is the truth, the whole truth, and nothin but the truth)....

I just figured this out myself. Goto your profile page and select "Edit Profile". There's a button for choosing an avatar (Personal Picture) near the bottom.
You only get to choose from 60 some odd icons till you get your post rate up higher.

Yep, and at 250 posts you can put up a custom avatar that's not on the list or make your own with paint/photoshop and a gif animator.
