Insulation help

welcome. the answer to your question comes with understanding the difference between "soundproofing" and "acoustic treatment". "soundproofing" is the act of stopping sound from traveling from one space to another through the wall or floor or ceiling. Actual true soundproofing costs a boat load of money and comes primarily from mass and isolation- so extra layers of drywall, thick concrete walls, resilient channels, suspension hangers, etc. "Acoustic treatment" is the design and manipulation of how sound reacts inside your space. The bass traps are designed to absorb low freq reflections in your space to minimize peaks and nulls. So... while the roxul you've put inside the walls will contribute to "soundproofing" (you won't be totally sound proof, i'm sure), you'll still want to build those basstraps in the room for acoustic treatment. While your at it, a few panels for first reflection points is a good idea.

I'm sure your gung-ho, but you might consider slowing down a bit and reading up on some of this stuff before you spend $ in the wrong places.

All rooms where audio is a main concern will benefit from adding some bass traps. Tracking rooms, isolation rooms, control rooms, even the room where your entertainment center (aka home theater) is located will be improved by adding bass traps.
 
thanks for the info Jeff, i think i need to do some more research at the bookstore, so thanks for the rec.!

im gung-ho but i want to do it right and like you mentioned i want to put the money where it counts. I obviously want to deaden the sound as much as i can but if traps are needed im questioning using roxul on the concrete walls since it is costly. surely there is a cheaper alternative for the 3 walls?

i think i'll just do the wiring and framing for now til i get a handle on what will work best.

Wise choice. A lot of people jump into this then realize later they could have spent the exact same amount of $ and got way better results.

About the roxul in the walls; sound batts in the wall will contribute to stopping sound passing through the wall... but, will have little to no affect on the sound inside the room (assuming you are covering the roxul w/ drywall).
Also, roxul makes a few similar products. Check the density on the stuff you have. For your bass traps, you'd want the heavier 4.5 pound per cubic foot stuff for the same performance as the OC703.

Oh yeah- extra outlets. You'll probably want some later, so might as well put em in now. :D
