when i open a midi file in cubase 5.o and i change an instrument , the instrument keeps going back to the original one when i go back to the start of the song.why doesn't it stay the way i want it to?

Don't use cubase myself, so this is a guess. Somewhere in the track there is a midi change (probably in track properties) that tells the instrument to reset. You could disable receive patch change on the instrument or find someway to disable the patch change in cubase. The patch change is probably nothing you have inserted... rather it is a part of the trck. Maybe other Cubase users can help you more.

Try Edit/Preferences/Midi/reset. Probably one of these settings is resetting everytime you stop.
