ive put together my own computer, however when i try to install windows it is not reckognized.

It is the Windows 64-Bit but my processor has 64-bit support so i dont know why its not working.

I get passed the set-up screen and then it askes me to enter the system disk but when i do nothing happens.

any help would be greatly appreciated ;)

You might not have the boot sequence setup correctly. Go into your bios and make sure CD Rom is the first boot device. Restart with the windows cd in the drive and you should be good.

boot prioriety?

i tried that already but im gonna go try again

thanks, ill be back to let you know if it worked or not

nope it still gives me the same message

disk boot failure, insert system disk and hit enter

Did you hook up your computer correctly? Did you set the jumper on the hard drive so it's on "Master"? Not sure if that matters or not...

Also look in the BIOS and make sure it's detecting your hard drive.

i have two hard drives which it is detecting both however i have two cdroms and its only detecting one .. but ive tried to boot the disk with both drives .. the detected one and the ...un deteced one and neither work??

Can you hear the CD drive spin up? Or see the activity led before it gives you the error? If so you might have a bad CD. Try the CD on another machine.

yeah i can defintly hear and see the drive working it lights up opens and spins i hope its not bad i just got it today

you dont think it has any relation to the 64-bit thing?

no but check your cables... also what's the position of your jumpers on the hard drives, and roms. and tell me how you got it hooked up.

the HDs are hooked up sata.. and the cd roms are hooked up to, im gonna have to wait until my brother comes home to help me out with explaining the whole thing cause he helped me with the whole thing

nope theyre both hooked up master even though one isnt detected

Do you see any CDrom activity (spin up, light) right before it gives you the boot error?? I know the cd will spin up and stuff when you put a CD in but do you see any activity right before the error.

Also, I'm not sure if all boards do this but most new ones should. At boot it will say "Boot from CD:" something like that when it tries to boot from the CDrom. If you don't see that you still might have your boot sequence settings wrong.

It could be the SATA. You need to install RAID drivers before the windows disk can see them. When you run the Windows disk, you'll notice a message along the bottom of the screen while its loading up, saying 'press F6 to install 3rd party SCSI or RAID drivers'. Hit F6 a couple of times. Eventually it will ask you to put a floppy in with the drivers on it. The SATA/RAID drivers should be on the disk that came with your motherboard, so you may have to copy them to a floppy.

On the other hand, if the Windows disk isn't working at all, them it probably has nothing to do with all that.

I would also temporarily remove the other CD drive and hard drive that are not necessary for installation. I would set your CD rom up as a master on your secondary IDE channel and install the SATA drivers like legion said above.

One needs to be master, one needs to be slave

This assumes that they're both on the same IDE bus. If they're on two separate busses, then they should both be set to master.

Hey guys thanks for all the help

i had them set up wrong they were both on master but it works now .. I'm actually on it right now but i have a number of other problems

First, my tascam FW-1804 will not work because the drivers wont install on this 64-bit version. but the tascam website has drivers for the 64-bit version and those don't work ether

Also i have two hard drives installed and both are recognized but when i go to my computer only the C pops up (the one i installed windows on)

On the C drive i have "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86)" whats the difference?

Uhh i know there's more but i cant think of them now ill post later

FYI- ALOT of drivers wont work on 64, and many programs don't work *right*. Ive only been able to be successful getting RME and MOTU drivers to work. The others that are available from most other companies just dont work, whether or not they say they do. x86 is the 32 bit application folder.

People REALLY need to research before deciding to jump to 64 bit. Theres ALOT of incompatibility still.

One program files lists 64 bit apps, the other native 32bit apps.
