I just received a new PC for my recording setup. OS Windows 7 64-bit, 3.2Ghz Intel Dual-Core, 8GB RAM, 1.5TB. I have a MOTU 828mk3 as my interface and am running Sonar 6. The MOTU and Sonar worked together great on my older PC, just having some trouble getting it running on the new PC.

I installed the latest MOTU x64 drivers off the MOTU website and am able to get to the MOTU Audio Console and CueMix with no issues. I installed Sonar 6 and can open program files no problems.

But when I go into Options>Audio, there are a number of places where I'm used to seeing the MOTU listed but where there is nothing now. In particular, the input and output drivers.

I did note that Sonar seems to see the MOTU as a MIDI device, though it's not defaulting to it on startup.

I'm sure I've overlooked something but it's been about 3 years since the last time I installed Sonar and I just don't know what to try next.

Any other info you all need to point me in the right direction, please ask.

Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: so when I change the driver mode from WDM/KS to MME, it seems to recognize the MOTU device. On the old setup however, I was using the WDM/KS drivers.

I'm wondering if the onboard soundcard has anything to do with this. My old computer had a MIA-MIDI card in it from before I had the MOTU??? Just a thought.

Run the Sonar WAV profiler and use ASIO drivers if at all possible.

Nice computer, BTW.

Thanks! Yeah, it looks like ASIO drivers will work. Now I can't understand why SONAR doesn't seem to "remember" stuff though. I tell it what MIDI to use, but each time I restart the program it forgets. I keep trying to tell it where the VST plugins are and it doesn't seem to take.

I wish I could remember if I went through this last time...

Thanks, it's a pretty cool little white box special. Although I remember thinking when I got my last machine about 5 years ago, "I'll never need more than this 1.2GhZ, 300GB HD, and 2GB of RAM..." :)

Now trying to uninstall Sonar 64-bit and install Sonar 32-bit. No idea if this will work, but Sonar just isn't working correctly as is. It won't scan for plug-ins, it won't find my MIDI interface, etc. Wondering if Sonar 6 is just too old for a Windows 7 machine?

I don't know. I'm still using an '05 Dell XPS P4 with XP Pro!

I don't have any experience with Sonar, but I think you should disable your onboard sound card - it will just confuse things.
Good luck

UPDATE: after using up about half of my day off, here's where I'm at. I disabled the onboard sound card and set the MOTU buffer to 512 as per a suggestion elsewhere on the net. Media Player is working flawlessly. In messing around with different projects that some where playing fine in both 32-bit and 64-bit Sonar 6 and some where not. The one commonality on the ones that weren't was that they all had some form of a TC Native Bundle pluggin in them. When I removed those pluggins, everything started working.

I'm running the 32-bit version now so EZDrummer can work and so can many of my older VST plugs. No idea why the TC Native stuff won't work and kills playback, but I guess I can live without it. May never know, but am back to about 98% operational status now...
