So, last night I'm driving home and it's pitch black, you know. Gotta love winter, right? I don't listen to radio, generally speaking... and Sports radio is unattainable due to the FCC codes which mandate that local AM stations have to pull the power supply at sundown...
So, I'm running through the MP3 player in the Jeep, looking for something to stimulate my mind for the next 40 minutes. That's when it hit me... THE FUGEES!
The Score has inspired me more than any other album ever has... and usually when I get writers block, or get sick of everything, I revert back to 1995 and listen to Lauren and Wyclef rip apart the east coast boom bap I fell in love with way back when... I started freestyling over "Zealots" and "The Beast" and boom... inspiration is back!
Yet, now I'm stuck. I want to do an entire project, dedicated to the early to mid 90's sound of east coast lyricism. Sampled beats with flute-type melodies, and almost zero focus on getting people on the dance floor. A purist project, if you will.
The problem is... beats. I don't know anyone who makes those style of beats these days.
I guess it's time to start diggin for unknowns on Soundclick again...
