I have a question. It may be dumb, but here it is. I've been looking at the echo soundcard models. I was wondering why the gina has only 2 inputs and like 8 out. What are the outs all for? And do you hook a mixer into the inputs. Can you guys just supply me with more info on these cards?

Two inputs for those that record one track at a time (typically using sequencers). The multiple outputs are for people that like to mix with an external mixer and use their hardware / rackmount effects units. This is not so common nowadays with many people doing all their mixing in software and using plugins etc.

I wish the Gina had 8 in's and 2 out's. That would be more useful, for me anyway.

The GINA actually has 4 inputs (two analog and two digital) and 10 outputs (8 analog and two digital).

I used the extra outputs to send a line level signal to a stereo in the other room, or to an outboard recorder like my Portastudio or external CDRW. That way I didn't have to unplug any of the outputs.

I agree- not as useful as having more inputs, which is why I went with the Delta 1010 when I had the chance.

The multiple virtual out (as in my Mia) are great to have when you have several audio programs open at the same time.

I can open up my sequencer (n-track), fruityloops, and SoundForge at the same time and they won't fight over the audio outs... I just set them each to a different pair.

the gina24 has 2 analog ins, 1 spdif in and 8 adat digital ins, but you can't use adat and spdif at the same time. It also has 8 analog outs, 8 adat outs and the spdif out, but again you can't use adat and spdif at the same time.

from the website:

"# Supports full duplex 10 channel in, 16 channel out operation"

That's pretty much what I do, I have the Mia too. Great card.
