Anyone out there using inputs 1&2 on their Delta1010LT connected up to external mic pre's?

I've added a couple mics for the drum room and I wanted to fill up my #1 Delta1010LT card sincd it's pretty much dedicated to that purpose (it one of my anal organization things).

ANYWAYS,...Only until very recently have I actively tried to use these inputs with external pre's in front. I'm getting quite a bit of DC off-set. I've tried a couple different mic pre's, different cables, different mics all with the same results. When I move my mic/cable and pre to any of the other inputs, signal in looks fine.

I've experimented with the delta jumpers (+4 to -10) which again has no impact other than over-all input level. I contacted M-Audio but the only response I got was "we'll investigate". This was a week ago. I've followed up with additional email but I'm not getting any response.

Thanks,
sjl

I'm not sure I understand 100%, but I think you should just switch the jumpers on your card to line level, if you are connecting an external pre-amp to it. To do this you need to take the card out of the computer, it seems like you know that already.

In the mixer window for the 1010lt, set it to whatever the output of the pre-amp is, if it's +4bd, use that, I believe.

Thanks for the reply...as you pointed out, it really is a simple operation however, my problem is that on inputs 1&2 (the XLR equipped inputs), I'm getting quite a bit of DC off-set. When I move my mic/pre combos over to any other line in connection on the Delta1010LT, the off-set does not occur.

Again thanks...anyone else?

My guess is that you are trying to hook an unbalanced output to a balanced input. If you're going to do this, then you'll need to go through a DI box first to balance the signal.

If you're output is already balanced, then it could be an issue with your mic pre's balanced output ... or even the XLR cable you're using. Make sure those aren't the culprit before you assume it's the inputs on the card.

I´m with chessrock, I´ve passed through the same, I solved using balanced cable.

Thanks guys...I'll look at this a little harder...I'm running out of my pre's XLR/Balanced to the Delta inputs 1&2 (which are also XLR/Balanced inputs). I'm using SONAR 4.1 btw. While tracking, I watch the record wave form, it looks quite normal...symetrical and evently distributed over the zero centerline. However, when I stop the recording, disarm the track record, the wave form in SONAR changes and is suddendly off center...squashed on the bottom half and higher on the upper half.

I've also interchanged cables with gear combinations where I'm not having this problem...the problem doesn't move with the cables but rather stays with inputs 1&2. I'll keep starring at it...I've contacted M-Audio, SONAR and Avalon...I'm still in a holding pattern for support. :(

Again, thanks.

OK...got my SH!t together.

Apparantly I haven't got my act together when testing/trouble shooting my DC off-set problem...I sat down and did a very systematic series of tests today and came to the conclusion that the problem is with only one of my Pre-Amps. I posted this on another thread.

"I'm not happy with my Avalon right now... I got it new as a late holiday gift (socially correct holiday reference) to myself. I'm finding that when I engage the low end cut-out in my EQ my signal presents as DC off set... You may have heard me inquiring about DC off-set on inputs 1&2 on my Delta 1010LT...turns out my Pre is giving me difficulty. I'm being assured that my unit is defective and can be repaired or replaced if necessary. I was able to verify this with my handy-dandy tektronix dual trace o-scope."

I would like to thank everyone who offered support and suggestions. Looks like I was strarring it right in the face but my jumbling of equipment and cables, fiddling with SONAR and audio card jumpers, calling/emailing various product support people got me off track.
