hi all, im having trouble in hs2002(soanr lite) with monitoring a input signal while listenig to prev. rec. trks. when i have an audio trk. recorded and try to say lay a vocal, i'm hearing an echo like effect on the vocal. i dont hve any effects set to the vocal trk. but still get the delay between the vocal and what i hear i the hphones. i have a maya 44 sound card. im having a blast converting from 10 yrs. of analog rec. to the digital word, but im stuck. any ideas? thanx, mowtowntom

It sounds like you are listening back to the track you are recording after it's been recorded. It's best to find a way to monitor the playback signal and what you are playing before it's gone in and through the soundcard (that's the cause of the delay). What other gear do you have beside the Maya? Do you have a mixer in front of it?

This is from the M-Audio website but the same ideas apply:

"Direct Monitoring simply means monitoring your input signal directly, as the name implies. For example, if you were feeding a signal (any sort of sound) from your keyboard to your computer, Direct Monitoring allows the signal to get to the computer, but also sends that same signal directly back to you (in your speakers) so you can hear it while you record. There are no inherant delays, or latency is it is commonly called, when using Direct Monitoring.

"Software Monitoring allows you to take a signal and route it to the computer and then back to you after a series of processes, rather than directly (before it hits the computer). This path introduces a bit of latency because the signal is not sent directly to you. However, it does have its advantages: You can add plug-in effects such as reverb or compression to capture the vibe of the music better without altering the original signal getting to the hard disk. The extent of how fancy your signal chain gets is limited to your CPU speed and software application. Currently, the only programs that allow for this feature are ones that use either ASIO or WDM drivers: Nuendo, Cubase, Logic, Digital Performer, Peak, and Sonar."

Does that make sense? I would look at the Maya manufacturer's website and see if you can find out how to do the former rather than the latter with that card.

thanks yes i have a mixer. so i should monitor both reed. & live from the monitor section of the mixer?
