i recently purchased a preamp and i have a question.

my current set up is, XLR input using the 1/4inch output to my computer (im using a 1/4inch to 1/8inch adapter to connect to my soundcard)

would i get better sound quality if i used the XLR output with the XLR input, instead of the 1/4inch output. i would have to buy an XLR to 1/8inch adapter to connect to my card.

would i get better quality?

thanks

Depends on the pre... with some, the 1/4" output is running at "-10", the XLR at "+4"... chances are pretty good that a soundcard running an 1/8" input doesn't want to see a "+4" signal... there are a couple of other variables... like some pre's with 1/4" and XLR outputs have a transformer on the XLR out and the 1/4" out runs transformerless... which would also net you two different tones.

If you're still using the same output on your computer soundcard, then signal will not be improved (it's still the same)
Changing connectors will not change anything, unless you're dealing wil balanced lines (you have to understand the difference between line/mic/balanced/unbalanced etc to get what I mean)
Then a TSR ('stereo' jack) to XLR would do it. But then again, ONLY if you're soundcard has Balanced out (probably not, well I'm sure it's not)
The pre-amp IS probably capable of balanced signals. But it takes 2 to tango ;)

Being as terse as possible, no. Your existing setup is fine.
