Input 1/2...no sound???

I upgraded from '98 to xp so that I could install Audition (from CEP 1.2). I have an ST Audio 8channal ad/da2000 into their card. After installing audition and setting up the options for inputs and outputs...I couldn't get any sound to go in. I thought it was all channals, but then I tried 2-8 w/no problems. Originally, I had 1/2 set up in EV mode (did this accidently). Now it's in in that mode and still, nothing. Any suggestions?

Yeah...Smoke a bit fat bowl and watch that clip of Ashlee Simpson in SNL 30 times in a row, or until you stop laughing.

Try "try as WDM" ticked AND not ticked - one or other might work.

When you find which way works, set it that way for each input pair.

Well...

That didn't work. Judging by the STAudio forums, I'm far from the only person with this problem. Of course, the ST people want to say that it must be user error. Right. Anyone have any good, sub300 soundcard / breakout box solutions? It really sucks knowing that you have capable hardware, but the freaking company can't write a driver...or won't acknowledge a problem.
 
It sure looks as though it should run with AA: ST lists drivers for the DSP24 PCI card for just about everything. I notice they say it works with Cool Edit Pro, the forerunner of Adobe Audition: there were no changes that I noticed when I upgraded from CEP to AA. AA doesn't work with ASIO and sometimes doesn't work with WDM, as you already know. I use a Terratec card and I ended up having to use its MME drivers to get multichannel recording. I wonder if you have to specify the older drivers?

Which outputs are checked for "Use for EV" shouldn't affect the inputs. You selected them in the Options/Device Order/Wave In tabs, from what you said. Are the Windows volume faders up? How about the ST control panel? Remember that AA by itself doesn't have any way to set the incoming volume. I assume you have selected the appropriate inputs on each track, also. Assuming the card is correctly seated, you should be able to select the input pairs and have them work.

When you call up the Control Panel, does it have a way of showing input levels? If you haven't already, run a signal into each channel of the control panel and make sure you're getting something at that point.
 
In a nutshell...I had no problems at all in CEP 1.2 win98se. As you know, to install audition, you have to have xp. Soooo, I upgrade to sp. w/Sta's 7.xx drivers, I can record on inputs 3-8. No dice on 1/2. If you read the forum, I'm far from the only one w/this issue. It's a driver problem, there's little doubt. The problem is that if you suggest this on the st forum, you get trashed like you're an idiot and know nothing. I'm sick of it. Anyone using win98 and want a cport2000 +sounccard? It worked flawlessly in 98.

Yes, btw, it does have what it calls and 'external mixer.' I'd be able to see sound in. Nothing.
 
That indicates there's no signal getting to it. I'd go back and troubleshoot all the connections into the sound card until you can see something on the meters on the Control Panel. I personally have been aggravated to death by this sort of problem but it has always gotten solved by being patient and thorough. Don't give up.
