Inhaler…Hardcore Punk about Asthma

Hey, it’s all been done and sung…so here’s some hardcore punk about Asthma. I made it to tease my drummer friend, because that’s what friends do.

I humbly present to you…INHALER! Take a deep breath, 2 puffs of Albuterol, and enjoy 2 minutes of noise!

And of course, input is appreciated. Dense mixes are tricky to say the least!

Nice energy there for sure. Sounds balanced well, solo is tre cool. How about letting the vocals have their full frequency range, it feels like you’ve deliberately taken some of the lows and mid lows out to give them a low fi kinda sound. Could even let the song start with the low fi thing then give vocals that fuller range around :36 in. Drop back to the low fi for the coughing at the end haha. Just rambling.

Thanks for the input! Definitely a challenge to get everything to mesh in such a dense mix. I kept going back to the low cut on the vox because they were fighting everything else. I definitely struggle with this exact thing. I’ll play with it some more! Much appreciation!

Were you wanting that fuller range on the vocals? That’s definitely a production decision.
And if you didn’t change anything it will still be really good. The vocal style is appropriate for the genre as it is now also 👍👍

Listening again, and taking to heart your comment, I’m wondering if I should take out a little of the bite/harshness out of the main vocal. Might not take much to make it sound more balanced without adding more low end into it. Sounded pretty bitey and a little unbalanced in my car this morning. Yet it passed the AirPods, Monitors, and HD-650 test…Mixing is hard! I appreciate the comments!

Side note: I’m now officially out of Hard Drive space on my Lenovo X1 (512GB). Noooo! It wouldn’t let me save the song I spent hours on last night. Probably grab an external hard drive on the way home tonight to see if I can make some room. Lame. Good news it, maybe this would explain why it has been running so slow and bogged down while recording. Hopefully an easy fix!

Ya I would tend to agree that that might be an appropriate way to fill up the vocal without adding to that lower frequency stew. Don’t forget to adjust the level if needed to keep that vocal in your face like it is now. 👍
Ya I use an external drive to store all of my project files on. Nothing on the internal of the laptop but the operating progs.
Ya mixing is hard. I struggle for anything decent

Do you record straight to the external HD during a project? Or just transfer files later? Just curious if it slows things down to bypass the internal HD during tracking. Also, are any external HD brands better than others? Quick online search leans me towards the more expensive SSD HDs.

I try to be a songwriter, guitarist, bassist, drummer, vocalist, recording engineer, mixing engineer, mastering engineer, and now computer geek…sheesh!
Thanks!

I record to a Zoom r24. From there I drag the .wav file to a folder I have created on my external drive. When I open my song I’m working on in my daw I go into the folder with my .wav files in it and drag the ones I want into the daw for mixing etc. etc.
I’m no expert on hard drives or computer speed issues but a computer with more ram worked for me. I used to get a lot of stuttering when I had about 8 tracks running depending on how many plugins were going at the time and now with more ram I haven’t found the maximum amount of tracks yet.

I love the song and I love the energy.

Things are well played.

The vocal sounds like it's in a different place than the other tracks.

The guitars don't quite have enough chug/punch. Maybe a little too much gain?

The bass is pretty far back in the mix.

Agree with the vocal comment. A little too much bite to it. I’ll dial it back a little. Also, I’m the first to admit I don’t have a killer voice. We all just get by with what we got!

Maybe add more bite to the guitars? Bass, I don’t know…maybe add more of certain frequencies?

The more I listen the more I realize the snare is too soft too. I definitely have some work to do. I appreciate the suggestions!
