Info about the new P4 cpus & Cpu building

I'm pretty much neutral in the Athlon vs P4 debate, although I do think that right now the Athlon is a better bang-per-buck. However I thought that those of you shopping for a new cpu/motherboard might want to check out the following reveiw of the new P4s -

I also noticed the following story about building your own computer - it's oriented towards a gaming machine, but still has usefull info for someone wanting to build a DAW -

That link didnt work. There is some interesting info on them at www.firingsquad.com

It looks like Intel has the total performance lead again but those babys aren't cheap. I have been planning on putting together a new system soon and will probably go with a XP2000 chip. I prefer intel but those new chips are old school prices.

I think...

Greetings,

I think the best bet is wait for the new athlon 2200+ xp based on the Thoroughbred design, and hopefully the 2100+ will go down in price. That will probobly make it close to 2/3 cheaper then the P4 2.53, with about a 5% performance difference. Now that would rock.

Based on the benchmarks I've seen, the XP 2100 is more than 5% slower than the new P4. This review over at AnandTech shows that for certain applications the P4 stomps the XP. Of course, in the bang for the buck category the XP still wipes the floor with the P4.

oh yeah..

Greetings,

yeah i guess i was still thinking of the P2.4 vs the 2100+ where it was ahead, but not that much, the 2.53 is starting to get to aroun 10%. But really, you will save, what...350$? you can get either a WD 120 gig Hd or a GF4 4600 with that...yum
