Hey Guys, I'm new here. I have been searching through the threads in this
forum in hope to gather some info for my future purchase. However, I am
seeing different alternatives and would like to ask for your opinions.
Right now, I am considering buying a laptop (due to my frequent
travelling) for doing some digital recording. I would mainly be working
with Reason and Sonar and at this point, I only need to record one track
at a time.
I am currently on a tight budget and thus I would like to know your
opinions on the 2 options below for my soundcard and preamp setup
(assuming that my laptop would have both PCMCIA and Firewire ports):
1. Buying an Indigo I/O and a preamp. I was going to go for the
Audiobuddy, but it appears that this pre have problem providing the
standard 48v phantom power. So I guess I "can" go for the DMP3 instead,
even though I would only be able to use "half" (one channel) of the unit.
2. Buying the M-audio Firewire 410. This would give me pre's and phantom
power all in a box along with the soundcard. This would cost like 80
bucks more while allowing me to record 2 tracks at a time if that is
needed in the future. It also comes with those optical and midi i/o.
One thing that concerns me is whether I really need those extra i/o's
provided by the 410. What do ppl usually use those coaxial, RCA, S/PDIF
i/o for anywayz? I would really like to know. And also, what do you think
about the difference in preamps in the 2 setups? Would the DMP3 sound
better?
Thanks
