How can I effectively increase the signal volume without them clipping? My recordings are too quiet, I am going for a fatter sound.

Can anyone help? If so, thanks.

what equipment are you using? You may want to look into a decent preamp, to boost the signal before it even reaches your sound card.

I am using a Delta 44 4 in/out soundcard, Behringer mixer (4 mic inputs), 2 Oktava MK012 condenser mics, a Beta 52 on kick, and an SM57 on snare. All my recordings are too quiet, I am looking for a fat drum sound.

you've tried turning the volume up on your mixer I assume. Maybe you need a preamp.

the mixer i have has preamps, im talking about making things sound fatter with cool edit pro 2

oh ok.. you wanna know which effects make drums sound thicker...

Experimenting with reverb will be your best bet

highlight the part of the wave you want to modify (hopefully all of your drums are on seperate tracks)

Click the "transform" tab at the top

select "Delay Effects"

pick reverb, and there's several effects and presets to choose from.

lol yeah i know how to add the reverb, i meant what makes it sound fatter and more professional? im doing a cover of TSOL - code blue, give it a download while you are stuck here helping me ha

Couple Of Links For You...

- Go to my site -- www.AudioMaverick.com.
- Select the *TidBits* button on the top.
- On the left menu bar, under *Audio Alteration*, check out these two sections --
-- *Compansion* and *Make It Louder*.

This should get you started. Remember to save your original files and mess around with copies! One accidental save, and you can't go back.

Yeah, unfortunately I know this by experience. Thanks for the help, I am listening to your session samples now.
