Inspired by Rami's recent do-it-in-one-day cover song. This horrendous piece of blasphemy is what I came up with yesterday. :wtf:

Rip it up!

Thanks,
Greg

I think you could have pulled this off if you'd given this a bit more thought. It could actually work pretty freaking good with some tweaks and a little less Ramone attack.

You do have the recording down to a science.

Fuck man I love this!!!! When I heard the intro, I said "How the fuck is he going to sing In the Ghetto to this?". And it totally works. Love the 16th note chugging guitars. You even have some blowing leads in there!

Great stuff, and nothing to comment on sound-wise. Everything is top notch recording-wise.

Sounds like Eddie Cochran on Cocaine & Amphetamines ripping Elvis Presley a new asshole! <~ That's intended as a compliment.

I just eff'in love it. I'm saying nothing else. :thumbs up:

Sounded great. Can't say much else. Loved the bass.

More thought and less attack? Have you never heard my music before? :D

Thanks dude. What do you think of the snare? I tuned it lower and buzzier than I usually do. I think I like it like this, but I'm not 100% sold on it yet.

Cool man. Thanks. I'm a big fan of Eddie Cochran, Elvis, and amphetamines, so that's good to hear. :D

Awesome, thanks bud. No clicks or pops? :D

HEHE! :D

I am. I hadn't noticed, just went back and listened. Nice and fat and still cutting through. Great sounding snare for any style of rock. Kik is PERFECT. Just the right amount of click and low end. Jealous, I be.

My next purchase might have to be a Supraphonic. I have 3 snares and they're all good, but none of them are great.

HEHE!....again. :D

Greg TAKES DOWN THE SACRED COWboys.
Fun & funny.
Thanks Ray. Irreverent and blasphemous covers are fun. :D

Cool, good to hear. I'm glad it works. I'm liking it more and more like this. If you can find the right deal, I'd highly recommend you pick up a Supra. I'm usually not one to recommend something just because I have one, but that is THE snare for rock and roll. It's probably the most recorded snare ever. It's a classic, and to me it never sounds bad no matter how you tune it.

Mine's a 14 x 6.5. I'm using a Remo Powerstroke 3 batter, Ambassador Hazy reso, and Puresound 30-strand snares. Single SM57 off the rim. Tuned pretty low for this. The 5" deep versions sound killer too.

Ha! Nice quickie. I was once tasked with writing a reggae version of this song for a songwriting exercise. I never did actually get very far with that project, so it's a little vindicating to hear a cross-genre adaptation of this one.

Things sound good to me overall. Guitars are blistering and nicely present as usual. Drums sound great, although as usual I want to hear more snare :) The vocals are appropriate, but I hear something in there that doesn't fit...the vocal mic maybe? I can't put my finger on it. There's like a low-mid bump or a mid valley in there or something, like a dynamic stage mic. I'll have to listen on my monitors later and see if it pops out at me.

Love the background vocals, good hook. Nice solo too!

That would blast anyone right out of the ghetto. Another successfully Gregafied song, it doesn't get much better than that.

Fuck yeah, much better than dead faithful ones and sacred cows are there to be slaughtered.

Like Rami, I couldn't see how you'd manage to punk up In The Ghetto - but you did! I listened through a few times and didn't pick anything up that sounded off. Sounds great as usual man :)

Thanks dude. Vocals are the one area where I usually put little or no thought or effort into the production. I think they sound okay for what they are - just a dummy yelling. :D

Thanks a lot man. :)

Amazing how you can turn a slow song into punk like this - it works actually quite well. No mix issues for me and I love the backup vocals!
