In the corner....

My control room is the smallest bedroom in my house...about 9 1/2 X 11. My desk is an "L" shape that should fit in a corner. I had the desk pointed into the center of the longest wall. The only problem is that it took up a LOT of space...like half the room....but my monitors were probably 2 feet from the closeset wall. I was really pleased with my mixes..and so were the bands I was working for. In order to save a little space, I moved my desk into a corner like it was made to do....now I have a ton of space in my room but all of a sudden, I have WAY too much bass. Just to see how the move effected my older mixes, I played some of them and they sound terrible in the low end...way too much bass...will accoustic treatment help me or would it be best that I move my desk back to the middle of the room and lose all the space?
 
Hey, if you have a bunch of blankets, try that and see if it works. If it doesn't help, that might mean something. Worth a shot, if you have the blankets.... :confused:
 
Try to suck out some of the bass from the room. Start off by treating the rear corners of the room.
 
As you have just discovered, mixing in a room corner is a really bad idea. It's tempting in a small room, especially when your desk is built to go there, but really, this is not good, and never will be. You can mitigate the problem to an extent with some bass trapping, which is a good idea no matter where you put the desk, but the best thing to do is ditch the desk and get or build one for your previous, proper mix position.

Looks like we have a winner....I have been thinking that I will get a friend who is quite handy in the woodshop area to help me come up with something. Thanks guys....
