hey I was wondering, I know they have plugins and such to change the pich of the voice, but is the some fx that can change the "sound" of the voice, lets say I wanted someone like Beck to sound like Kurt, is that even possible?

Edit: Please don't kill me....

I think the CIA has something along those lines but good luck getting one in a studio any time soon.

Youd need some pretty hi tech equipment for that.
Im sure its maybe possible to make a plug-in that will do it, but should it be released if it is invented (produced).... NEVER.

Eck

Matching EQ is all I can think of but that wouldn't have any effect on the timbre or "sound" of the voice.

heh.

well, i could give you an idea as to how you could use plugs to sound like a robot or an alien but thats about it..

Too many people watch movies & TV and think that computers are "magic".....

verry true, the pop engineers would be obsessed over it...

there not?

anyway, ecktronic and danny.guitar sorta gave me an Idea, is there a site or something that can help you make a plugin? becouse jonnyc gave me the Idea that... well. nvm, is there any tutorials that can help you Make a plugin?

Antares makes a plugin called Throat that is supposed to change voice timbre. Sounds like a bad joke to me.

I think VST plug-ins, if not, all plug-ins, are made in C++.

I think there is a Steinberg SDK (Software Development Kit) for C++ that will let you make VST plug-ins. I don't imagine it's an easy task though...

There is a plug is called steinberg voice designer...

It doesnt really do what your saying...
But it can alter formants, and pitch...
Maybe with EQ, and maaaaaybe a smidge of compression...

You can get a different voice...
But you cant really get it to sound like anyone specific.
Instead of getting beck turning into kurt...
You may get Beck as a 12 year old boy with a thumb pressed on
his adams apple.

Its kind of a neat little tool though.

Ive looked into it.

The explainations they give...require you knowing the terminology they use.
The explaination of the terminology...is there...but not where it should be.
Its ALOT of work. I have it saved somewhere on my HD.

Its interesting...But...in no way...easy.

programming is not easy..

you sit there and know weird and funky command lines to type.

there must be something to it, as people go to college for 4 years to learn..

the jesusonic effects are completely open to any modifications that you might want to try. might be a good start for anyone interested in creating their own effects.

oh no...

we made our way around buying pre amps- DIY plans readily availible.

then we made our way around expesnive mics- MSH series.

now we are making our way around plugins too!?!

geez. no wonder the american economy is shot :D :D :D :D

How it would work very roughly (I think) is the machine would take very very detailed readings of the original voice. Also to get an accurate sounding replica of another voice, the machine would have to take many many detailed readings of the voice you are trying to re-create.
This would be easy enough for the CIA to do as they could use some real nice bug equipment and record the voice at hand for days to get the neccesary info.

:)

hmmm. about the programming thing, if it is indeed C++... GREAT! thats the first language I've ever learnt (though I havent programmed for a year or 2) but seing that I've never programmed audio before, I will need some tut's and I'll give that Throat plugin a shot.

thanks evrybody!
