Importing Audio to PC via ADAT

I'm new to working with computers for the purposes of recording, editing, mixing, etc., and I'm having some issues. Here's my setup (using ancient/obsolete technology):

Tascam M-312B -> ADAT machine -> Frontier Dakota PCI card in my PC

I'm wanting to import tracks to my computer for the purposes of being able to edit individual tracks, then mixing, then burning them to CD. I have an ADAT lightpipe cable going from my ADAT machine into my PC via the Dakota. When I am recording the tracks into the computer (via Reaper) everything looks like it's working alright, but upon listening back, the tracks are constantly cutting out. What I'm hearing could be described as the audio equivalent of a strobe light.

Is this a time clock issue? Is it necessary to use a sync cable between the ADAT machine and the Dakota for this to properly work?

I'm sure there is a myriad of reasons why this could be happening. Please enlighten me!
 
Have you set the Dakota to clock from its optical input? The ADAT has to be the clock source.

The ADAT sync connection may also fix the problem, but it is really to make a hybrid system possible where there is a shared absolute timecode between a DAW and an ADAT machine.
 
I'll see if that's the issue as soon as I get home from work.
Technologically speaking, I'm still working in the early 90s. I normally use the sync for working with multiple ADATs at once, and that's the only thing I've ever used it for.
 
Got it. Just had to fiddle around with the settings for the Dakota.
