So im buyin an artcore, and i wanted the cheapest price possible.
so i typed in the model in google and voila.
this site came up called boxymusic.com
i found my artcore on it for $279.57 compared to musicians friends price of $359.99.
So i called musicians friend and showed them the site.

The guy on the phone seemed kinda angry because it was so cheap and he couldnt believe it at first.

But since i didnt have the money ready they said they couldnt verify it if they could meet the price.
He said the only way they can meet the price is if boxymusic.com has the guitar in stock.
Otherwise if i was about to order with my money all ready, then they could totally verify it he said.
There you go!

Has anyone else found a way to cheat the man?

Finally! Nice to see a big guy sweat a little. I used to work at a small retailer, and when internet sales started to get big we watched already scanty margins get even scantier.

Things have changed a lot since then, with local retailers tightening up from the competition (always good), and companies giving much better pricing to small guys. Peavey, for instance, has always given the same price to all dealers, big or small. The other big boys are starting to be better about it as well.

A lot of small stores, some in business for decades, went down in the meantime, though. :(

I don't see how legitiate price matching is "Cheating the man"....

BUT, I went to Boxymusic, and their shipping charges are whacked!!! $85 to ship a Variax??? Yikes!!!

That brought up their price considerably...

When I bought my Traynor YCV80, I found it elsewhere for $100 less than MF.com's asking price at the time. I called and the girl had me hang on for a minute or two, then said they could match the price. No questions asked, no problems or attitude from them. So I got the amp for about $650, and now they're asking $800 for the thing!

MF Rocks at Price matching.... They have NEVER given me a hard time....
I admire them for that... in fact, I find their service to be top notch.

They are also great about returns....

YMMV...

I guess it works over the phone. When I emailed them with a link to a cheaper price, they ignored me. So they didn't get the sale

yea, they never write back from e-mails.

oh mannnnn im so stoked because im getting an Ibanez Artcore, case, and sweet fender coil cable all for 357.62 compared the the price of the artcore alone which is 370.
ha!

I have asked MF several times in the past and there was always a reason for them not to do it. What they will do I found out is have the OEM put pressure on the source with the lower price to have them raise their price. That's the MF way of price matching. Case in point: I found the Roland 2480 for $800 less than MF was selling it for. I wanted to buy from MF because of the 12 mos. same as cash option whereas the competitor didn't offer financing. Long story short; the compeitor ended up having to raise their prices on ALL of their Roland products.

The way I see it if you find what you're looking for cheeper somewhere else buy the thing. Companies have the price match to try and keep faithful customers. In my opinion if they wanted to keep faithful customers they should already have the lowest price and keep up-to-date on price changes. As with all things though add everything up first to see if it is a better deal. MF usually has free shipping on most items over a certain amount. I've had some bad conversations with sales reps. over the phone or in person at my local music store about price matching. I have found way better deals at my local music shop just by barganing with them. I picked up an Ibanez RG320DXQM which was on sale for $449.99, I walked out the door with the Guitar, Hardshell Case, and two packs of strings for $300.00 with tax.
