Okay. Spent some time going through every song submitted and had to do a few things.

Mostly, many songs had fade outs that ended either abruptly at the end of the file, or had what I can "skips" during the fade. In a few cases, there was a lot of noise at the end of some songs that needed to go.

To a lesser extent, the same thing happened at the beginning of some of the songs.

In the case of noise at beginnings, I did fade in's that eliminated the noise up to the first musical hit. Actually, I usually have it back at full volume around 5-10ms before the first hit. In no case was anything altered in the music, just the noise, although one song sounded like it had a left over click track where the last click was barely audible. It went!

On some of the fade outs. I doubt that if I altered your fade that you will really notice it at all unless you really scrutinize it under headphones at loud volumes (which is how I usually clean up beginning and ends of songs when mastering). I always check the work on speakers at moderate volumes to make sure that the fade is musical.

There was some cases where music was fading out, but abruptly ended at the end of the file. This doesn't work out too well when authoring disks, and in those cases, I applied a pretty quick fade at the end, that again, you would have to crank up the speakers to even notice.

In a couple cases, there was some noise, or weird "hit's" towards the end of fades that didn't flatter the fade out's much, so I usually applied a very gentle fade over that to smooth them out.

I sort of made a ME's decision on most of this after consulting Slack about it first. First off, DON'T blame Slack for okaying this in any way. I more or less TOLD him what I was going to do, and he agreed after I explained some things that I should do what I felt was best for authoring the disk.

So, if you had an ending that was sort of abrupt that you INTENDED to be that way, you might want to get a hold of me ASAP to talk to me about that. I will be burning the disks tomorrow and shipping them back to Slack on Saturday. So you have time to advise me of your concerns.

Otherwise, a pretty good showing for comp CD 2. Good job guys.

Ed

Thanks for doing this for us, Sonus! I can't wait to hear this CD!

Ah. I'm sure you killed my nice (and quite intentional) disintegrating fadeout. :) Ah well, I'll survive. It's not important. The song is quite long, and I intend to split it and let it both start and end my next demo-cd. :)

Well, no big deal, a fade out, or just removing the last "klunk" will not make any kind of important difference. It is intended to END a CD after all, and would probably sound weird in other places. I trust your experience in these matters, and in fact, you would be quite allowed to mangel the song in any way you like to make it sound better. ;)

You're the man, Ed...

Yeah, I guess most of us -the submitters- mixed the content in the last minutes of the deadline given (April 1). There must be alot of things left untouched durring that tight time. We were racing against time. As for me, I start to feel that the reverb is a bit too wet (...remind me not to take a final mixing decission on 4 AM :D ). If you can do anything to make it better, then go ahead :) Actualy, I made a thread for you to inform us about your work, progress, etc... on the Comp. CDs.

Glad to find you finally show up :)

Keep up the good work, Ed :) You're the man :)
