Important mr-8 question!

Im not sure about this and I figured asking you fellas would help me more than the manual. Im curently recording a song with the mr-8 and using a computer to do the editing. I only lack recording one vocal track on the song Im currently working on but I need to do another project at the same time. If I have all the tracks saved to my computer can I reformat my card, record a differnent song, then at a later date put a track from my old song on the card and continue to record?

There shouldn't be a problem Bigsnake.
Just create a folder in your computer for the song you're presently working on and save what is on the CF card in that folder. Now delete everything on the CF card and then put it-the card-back in the MR8. The MR8 will then ask you to name your new song. Do this and then record all the tracks for your new project. You then create another folder in the computer for this new song, and save all the data from the CF card again. Once you have finished the second song save it all on the computer. There is no need to reformat the card when you decide to again work on the first song. Just clear the card of the second song (this should all be saved as advised above), and reload the first. After I back up my wave files on PC, I always reformat my card whether I record a new song or re import tracks back to the MR-8. You never know if there is still junk in there taking up memory. Just remember that the tracks that you import back to the PC will import back to the MR-8 in the same corresponding tracks. (unless you rename them)

If there's junk on the card then he will probably know by checking the time, which I am assuming would be less if there were still some wave files hanging around. However, I believe reformatting the card is a waste of time. Deleting what is on the card once the tracks have been saved in the computer should do the job. I haven't had a problem so far, and I've done this countless times already. This is really the strength of the MR8, it is incredibly easy to use with a computer and doesn't require a lot of messing around when transferring your wave files. :)

i guess I can delete the tracks or the song but I am pushing the same amount of buttons anyway (or more if I delete 1 track at a time) :)

Cliff, I'm just trying to keep it simple for Bigsnake. :)
 
guys i am running win 98 and using a flash card reader....is this going to effect anything. if absolutly nessesary i can get to a machine with xp.

Bigsnake, I'm running windows 98, and it works like a dream. Try out what Cliff and I have recommended, you shouldn't have any problems.
 
A little late to the party, but "what they said..."

I do the same with 98 and a reader and it works great.
