Imediate Help PLEASE!

Hey ok im new to this forum but i think ya have me here to stay cuz im likin what im seein... i was wonderin if you guys could help me out... i went and bought a mini apple mac computer and im well into recording music as i visit recording studios regularly and it interests me... i hope to join a music tecnology class in my local college next year and for that i have to home record a demo disk and make a project on how i did that... what i would like to know is what and audio interface is? is it something i can plug my mic's and guitars into? im using apple macintosh's own garageband's software for recording... what equipment do i need and where could i get it cheaply and quickly?... i would be most abliged in a reply to help me out cuz im really stcuk!...thanx

The mac mini won't support an internal soundcard so you will need an external "interface." An interface is just a box with analog to digital converters that allows you to plug in a mic or line level instrument and record to a computer program like GarageBand. Most interfaces these days are either USB or Firewire. Check the link I posted above for some possibilities, particularly the M-Audio equipment. Your choice really depends on your budget. By the way, the link is for the Apple store in the Republic of Ireland. There may be other merchants online in the UK or elsewhere that can beat Apple prices and ship faster.
