I used to have a sequencer program called Cubase Lite that I loved. It was simple and easy to operate. I was using an old mac performa so quality audio wasn't an option. Later I bought an IMac running OS9.2. My old Cubase Lite program woudn't work because it didn't allow for USB ports. I thought with my new machine would allow for some audio tracks, so I bought a program called Cubasis, which appeared to be about the same as Cubase Lite but also had digital audio features. To my dismay, this program still would not work with USB. I contacted Steinberg and they advised that I needed to upgrade to VST, which was more than I wanted to pay. This was about 3 years ago. I've tried Pro Tools Free Version, but thought it way to complicated. Since then I have abandoned my computer and went back to my old cassette 4 track exclusively. Surely now there is an entry level product that will do midi and record a track or two of audio without a huge learning curve.
My equipment is:
IMac OS 9.2 w/plenty of disk space, but no writeable CD
Korg X5D synth
Tascam 4 track
1x1 USB midi port
Some good mikes
Music will be all acoustic, folk/bluegrass/gospel type stuff.
Would use midi mainly for occasional drums and keyboards.
Would like to be able to record at least 2 mono tracks or one stereo pass at the time.
What software do you reccommend for less than $100?
